Topic: wsus 3.1 upgrade question
Hi,
I am running WSUS version 3.0 and would to know if there is any
particular reason why I need to upgrade to 3.1?
I tried the upgrade earlier this year and the installation asked me to
remove the previous version (3.0) first before installing 3.1. If I go
ahead and remove the old version, would the 3.1 upgrade recognize the
information from the previous installation?
Thanks

There's no reason not to upgrade.

While I understand there's a lot of confusion around this process, one thing
I'm sure of is that the SP1 installer did not ask you to uninstall v3.0.

Maybe. I've not actually tried this. Typically there's the probability that
the application of the service pack (or upgrade from WSUSv2 to WSUSv3
definitely) is going to make schema modifications to the existing database.
If you uninstall WSUS 3.0 RTM, keep the database, and then install WSUS 3.0
SP1 and attach to that database, the installer may not be able to determine
that schema modifications need to take place.
If you truly want to do this, I would recommend setting up a test lab and
trying it in a test environment first.
Presuming you read the Release Notes, however, and address any issues
documented in the Release Notes, there's no reason not to simply perform the
installation of WSUS 3 SP1 directly to your existing WSUS 3.0 RTM system.
