I have Win2K Pro on a Dell Latitude D400 and get a
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED error when I try plugging in the external USB
DVD/CD-ROM drive (D/Bay) that came with the PC. I also tried plugging in an
old iomega ZIP CD-ROM drive and got the same error.

The problem seems to be with the USB Mass Storage device driver
(usbstor.sys) and I think it may have to do with some compatibility issues
between USB 1.0 and 2.0. I do have a Seagate USB external HD attached that
does work and uses USB 2.0.

Any suggestions on how to get my external CD-ROM drives working and resolve
this USB driver issue? I'd like to upgrade to WinXP but I don't have a
CD-ROM drive that I can use.

Do I need to get a new usbstor.sys driver? If so, how? I did uninstall the
Seagate driver but I still got the error when plugging in the other USB 1.0
drives so I think it must be looking at a corrupt usbstor.sys driver or some
other driver.

Any help in diagnosing is much appreciated.
